Sabers Forward--Charge!!!!!
As many of you know I have been working on TSSD's (Toy Soldiers of San Diego) Civil War cavalry
since November 2007. The PVC plastic has been a real challenge for this "natural plastic guy" (aka
ME!). Occasionally I will get slight discoloration when I "fuse" the plastic together however it's not a
problem for guys that paint there figures. But for us collectors who have unpainted figures it's just
another one of those things that "bugs" me. Thankfully it does not occur all the time.
This month features an assortment of the TSSD Civil War cavalry conversions I have done over the
past months. I decided to make a line of Union cavalry charging with swords/sabers drawn. The
original six (6) stock figures by TSSD are extremely well done but I wanted to expand upon them a
little more to give us that "special action" that we all desire for our dioramas. If you have watched
movies like "They Died with their Boots On" or even "The Charge of the Light Brigade" there is
nothing like a good cavalry charge. So with that in mind I went to work and designed a few conversions
with swords extended forward. I have to give Nick from TSSD credit for the phrase "Sabers Forward"
which I now use on some of these newer conversion poses.
The figures featured this month were made for Mike Westbay of New York. He requested a number of
"sabers forward" poses as well as a group of troopers firing their revolvers and carbines.
