MOUNTED ARABS ARE BACK!
After working on TSSD Civil War cavalry conversions for almost a year I have decided to go back to the older Conte
figures which were made with what I call the "Canadian soft plastic". This type of soft plastic is the ONLY PLASTIC
that gives me perfect results with my conversion figures (I should know since I tried just about every plastic on the
market). The ability to melt and fuse this plastic together gives me a seamless figure every time. But in addition to
that it allows me to easily fill holes and gaps with the same color and is absolutely the best soft plastic when using my
hot soldering iron technique. I truly can do wonders on the old "Canadian soft plastic figures" and this is the main
reason why I like to work on the older Conte figures. I have had many requests to make conversion figures with
Marx, Accurate and Imex plastics as well as the Conte PVC but the results are not up to my high standards. I have
been able to work with the TSSD PVC figures although I must admit they are not quite as good as the "Canadian
plastic" conversions.
So here are some of my new mounted Arabs made from the older Conte Beau Geste Arab figures. I used Imex
cavalry horses since I had an abundance of them and they work well although not really accurate to that era. Italeri
makes a very nice Arabic horse which would go well with these figures but the cost per horse is rather expensive,
about $4-5 per horse.
I have made about a dozen new mounted Arab poses as well as a number of Arabs on foot including the one shown
below. I recently watched the movie "The Wind and the Lion" with Sean Connery which gave me a lot of ideas for new
Arab poses, both mounted and foot. Sometimes I end up with stock poses that offer very little in conversion
possibilities. The standard Conte "prone Arab firing his rifle" figure was one of them however I was able to come up
with this idea of making him into an Arab scout. Remember, conversion figures add so much to a diorama. There is
nothing more rewarding than making your own. ENJOY!!!
