The 2010 Texas Show now belongs to history as well as the Alamo and John Wayne. This had to be the best trip
and show we ever attended. We had a great flight down to San Antonio with absolutely no problems at all. We
stayed at the Historic 1859 Menger Hotel which is right next to the Alamo and where Teddy Roosevelt organized
the Rough Riders for the Spanish American War. The San Antonio River Walk was just a short 5 minute walk away
as well as everything else we wanted to see. The show was fantastic too as I met dozens of my ebay customers who
traveled from states such as California, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada and many more as
well as various cities in Texas like Austin and Dallas.
Nick and DeAnna Versteeg of Toy Soldiers of San Diego (TSSD) were the promoters and did an outstanding job for
sellers and buyers alike. I have never seen any other promoter work as hard and as long as they did, and to top it
off they are most fantastic down to earth people I have ever met. Truly, the success of this show is the direct result
of their dedication to our hobby.
In addition to a great show, we had a private after hours tour of the Alamo, then walked across the street to singer
Phil Collins History Shop to view his Alamo compound diorama and finally "downed a few" with John Wayne
impersonator John "Duke" Edmondson. Not only does Mr. Edmondson portray Duke Wayne but also Sam Houston
and Jim Bowie as well as being an accomplished author of "The Alamo Story: From Early History to Current
Conflicts". It was our pleasure and priviledge to make his acquaintance and share his company.
The conversion poses that I took to San Antonio consisted of Conte Alamo defenders and TSSD's 7th Cavalry. The
Alamo defenders consisted of items like The Death of Davy Crockett, Whack'em Davy, Kicking and Fighting,
barehead versions of Cols Bowie and Travis and all of my favorites like Jocko and the Tennesseans. The TSSD 7th
Cavalary poses contained a 25pc set of troopers with a barehead version of Custer, a 10pc set of dead and wounded
troopers and many single poses which can all be used to enhance TSSD's Plains Indian Wars/Custer Playset. I am
happy to say that both era's sold very well and I was more than pleased.
In this month's feature I am posting pictures of our trip to San Antonio and some of the people we have met. I hope
you will enjoy them and should you have any questions please feel free to email me. Now its time to get back to
making something new for the next feature in July. ENJOY!!!
